Deb Marke Named Assistant Director, Advocacy and Social Justice Education
The Office of Civic & Community Engagement is pleased to introduce Deb Marke as the Assistant Director of Advocacy and Social Justice Education. In her role, Marke will direct the Social Justice Incubator, Branches Social Justice Retreat, and College Advocacy Summit. Additionally, she will coordinate the Deacs Decide election engagement project and Wake Alternative Break.
A Wake Forest alumna, Marke graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Exercise Science with double minors in Psychology and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.
For the past two years, she has served as the Program Coordinator for Leadership and Activism in the Women’s Center at the University of Cincinnati, where she was named Outstanding New Professional. Marke coordinated major social justice programs, including the Change Makers Conference, Black Feminist Symposium, Love Your Body Week, and Women in Leadership and Learning Program.
A gifted facilitator, Marke has developed several trainings on intersectional feminist activism, critical community-building, and leadership development. In addition, she served as the Programming Chair for the LGBTQ Faculty and Staff Association at the University of Cincinnati. Before moving to Cincinnati, Deb served as an AmeriCorps*VISTA member at Experiment in Self-Reliance in Winston-Salem.
