The Office of Civic and Community Engagement at Wake Forest University is proud to sponsor the Undesign the Redline Exhibit, a traveling exhibition that examines the history and consequences of redlining, a discriminatory practice that denied access to home loans and insurance to people of color and immigrants in the 20th century. The exhibit, which is open to the public, will be on display on the second floor of Benson University Center from February 6-March 6, 2023.

The exhibit will open for self-guided tours starting Monday, February 6. Individuals can conduct a self-guided tour during building hours: Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM-12:00 AM and Saturday-Sunday: 11:00 AM-12:00 AM.

Guided tours provided by trained student volunteers will be available for classes, student organizations, and departments starting Monday, February 13. Please allow a minimum of 48 hours of lead time to schedule a tour.

Undesign the Redline was created by Designing the WE, a social impact design studio that aims to foster dialogue and action on issues of equity and justice. The exhibit features interactive maps, timelines, narratives, and photographs that reveal how redlining shaped the physical and social landscape of cities and communities across the nation, including Winston-Salem. The exhibit also showcases the stories of resistance and resilience of the people who challenged and transformed these systems of oppression.
